When the Great War began, the combatant nations were unprepared to cope with the staggering number of casualties that would occur. By the start of winter 1916, untold thousands of dead lay unburied on battlefields across Europe. Coincidentally, much of the Eastern Front ran through remote regions covered by dense forests and teeming with wolves. The stage was set for conflict.
